Mojo-Batik for a "New Day"

Today's card is a combination of Julee Tilman's Mojo Monday and the Technique Lover's Challenge on SCS. Today's technique is colorwash batik. It is one of my favorite ways to play with re-inkers. It can be a tad messy--which I don't mind (please note the title of my blog). A benefit of doing this technique is that I could use the extra colorwash mist to dye my *not quite the right color* flower.

If you check out the sketch for Mojo Monday #55, you will notice that a few items are a bit--off. My excuses for this is that my computer is upstairs and my stamping studio is in the basement and my printer cable is still MIA. So show mercy ;)

I love snow-Blogger Challenge #2

I wasn't able to participate in last weeks challenge--but this week was a go. Details are on the Rubbernecker Blog.

This week's challenge is to use Grunge Board and or Chipboard. If you don't have either of these items, don't worry! Maybe you have some coasters or even a cereal box that you can cut up. We're very flexible!

Here is mine:

Well, it should read "I love snow DAYS". But the this little guy (Maurice) loves snow. I used Grunge board for the letters that were painted with a willow Paint Dabber. Maurice is highlighted with with a white Galaxy marker.

Well, it is supposed to get up to eighty today--a little high for me. So in my book, a snow card is a GOOD thing!

Arigato for Treasure!

Arigato is Japanese for thank you. I know this because I have my son and he has streeeeetched my horizons and perspectives as few other people in my life have. Because of my son, I have been to Karate lessons, learned various Japanese phrases. Because of my son, I have learned more than I would ever want to know about Japanese culture. Because of my son, I HAD to have this Samurai stamp!!!

The Samurai was stamped with Frayed Burlap Tim Holtz Distress Ink. The distress ink stays wet (wetter than most dye inks) enough to heat emboss--so I heat embossed it with clear ink. I then watercolored with various colors of distress ink. I like the aged look of the result--little spaces of white around most of the lines. In my research of Japanese paintings (using Google Images) I saw a distressed look--as well as MANY shades of blue.

Ink: Walnut Stain and Frayed Burlap for stamping Tim Holtz Distress Ink--and more for watercoloring;
Paper: watercolor paper, Chocolate Chip (SU!); DP by Basic Grey;

A NEW Challenge

Now, for a card:

For this card, I watercolored as I normally do, but then I added some perfect pearls to the wells in my paint tray. Just a bit. Then I went back an highlighted some of the petals, flower center, and leaves. You can't tell in the picture (though I tried SEVERAL angles to try and catch it) there is a golden shimmer on many parts of the flower.

I like the fact that I can get the look of other products but have just one product--that is a multi-tasker (yeah, I am an Alton Brown fan).

Stamper Tammy

I almost titled this post as "Stamper Tammy and the new baby" but that is how rumors get started.  Actually this card is for Sharon's Stamp Simply Challenge--and the challenge for this week is to make a card inspired by Tammy's style. (Check out her blog--Stamp Happy).  Sharon suggested sewing (but my machine is still buried in moving boxes--I know where it is--I just can't get to it), and cuttle-bugged backgrounds. 

This little guy's name is peebo--isn't he the cutest!!!  Even with a full diaper! (LOL!) He is from the DoodleFactory Country set.

Autumn Greetings

Autumn is my favorite time of year.  In years past, I have not had much time for fall cards, though.  As you can see, I think I am making up for lost time!

This one was colored with alcohol markers, and accented with a white gel pen.

Sounds like something I would tell my kids...except there would be more capital letters and an exclamation point. Instead, this is a reminder to myself--that hurrying, being busy, and moving forward is not always the way to go.

The main flower is embossed with copper embossing powder and watercolored.

Arrg, you drive me BATTY!

Arrg, it is Treasure Hunt Tuesday, but first a card.
It was fun to poke around in Card Crazy's Gallery for this week's Featured Stamper's Challenge. Denise has a classy and clean style often with an element *popped* up to increase visual interest.
I chose to try and case this card. I am afraid I changed everything but the layout--and I even changed that a little. SO I don't think it is a good case--but I sure did appreciate the inspiration from Card Crazy's Gallery!! So many beautiful cards!
I did use some foam tape to pop up some of the layers to mimic the popped up elements that Denise uses so wonderfully.

The image and sentiment are from Stamp Oasis at Rubbernecker. I colored the image with Prismacolor and Copic markers. The edges of the bat and sentiment with Tim Holtz Distress Inks and an ink blending tool. First with Tea Dye, then Aged Mahogany, then Vintage Photo, and the very edges with Black Soot.
The designer papers are from Paper Studio and Sonnets. The dp on the strips is a black and cream checked pattern, I cut the paper so that only the white squares show. The edges are inked with the Tea Dye ink. The edges of the houndstooth paper are inked with Black Soot.

Weekend Sketch and Inspiration ala Autumn

There is a SLIGHT chill in the air--so I am READY for fall!!

I love fall weather, I love fall colors, and I love fall clothes! AND Candy's Inspiration piece on her blog was a place to start going there! On my shopping excursion with Shelly I picked up some fall papers in anticipation of the season that fit the bill. With Beate's Weekend Sketch Challenge--it was the perfect opportunity to play with them and do Candy's Challenge.

So here is my card:

The Elixir of LIFE!

If you have had enough of my coffee cards....you just might want to skip this post.  I was gonna lay off the coffee cards (notice I said coffee CARDS and not coffee).  Really, I was!

BUT...

The Limited Supply Challenge today was to USE coffee themed stamps (and orange). So it is NOT my fault...it is Silvia's fault.  Yeah, that is my story--and I am stickin' to it!!

The creature is Zot by DoodleFactory available from Starving Artistamps. The sentiment is also from Starving Artistamps.

Zot is colored with Orange, Spanish Orange, and Poppy Red Prismacolor markers. His "elixir of life" cup is colored with Green Tea and Sienna Brown and highlighted with a blue glitter gel pen.  (BTW--these pens are WONDERFUL!!)

Materials used:

• Stamps: Zot and unique sentiment from Starving Artistamps;
• Ink: Memento Rich Cocoa (Tsukineko); Prismacolor markers--colors above (Sanford);
• Paper: White (GP); Pumpkin Pie and Close to Cocoa (SU!); DP from ki memories and My Mind's Eye;
• Accessories: Sticker strips (SU!); button; embroidery floss; flower (Prima Marketing);

Blue Willow Cornucopia

This was inspired by the Currier and Ives dishes our family had as a kid and Blue Willow dinnerware. 

So card this was a  sentimental journey for me.

The Currier and Ives dishes were available as grocery store premiums and they were manufactured by a number of companies.  My granny saved her green stamps and got quite an extensive set, and presented it to her daughter-in-law (my mom) as a gift.  We had the glasses, the plates, the serving pieces, practically every size and shape imaginable. That blue and white dinnerware is  meatloaf , family and home (in that order).   I found out MUCH late in life that this was not a pattern that my mother loved--but they were serviceable dishes (and there were so many) that it is what we used for years and years.

Consequently, and not surprisingly,  I have always love the look of the Blue Willow pattern.   While engaged I worked the the china department of a local department store, and I would daydream of afternoon tea, with a Johnson & Bros. Blue Willow tea set. (Reality: no tea set--but I don't do afternoon, tea, either)

• The image was stamped with Memento Paris Dusk, and watercolored with Tim Holtz Distress Ink-Faded Jeans and Weathered Wood.
• I used some old patterned cardstock (a blue on white open weave pattern) for both backgrounds.
• The upper one used the negative effect Cuttlebug background. The folder was inked with the Memento Paris Dusk ink.
• The lower background used a Rubbernecker stamp (Striplet #5).
• The stick pin is a corsage pin with beads, the last three are glued on.

100% Genuine

Well, have you ever had a crafting project that took on a life of it's own?? Well, Yapples (a.k.a. Trouble) has done that for me today!

This started out as a Monochromatic card for Emily's Color Combo Challenge . Is it monochromatic???.......NOPE!

Then it was to formed to fit Rox's Sketch Challenge this week. Does it do that?????...................Nope!

Although I am fairly happy with the result--I wonder WHY I spend any time planning projects at all!! (I am sure there is a benefit--I just can't see it today!)
