Cake!?!

I know there are people out that that don't like cake.  My son and my mother-in-law are not huge fans (which leaves more for ME!).  But I really do like cake.  I am not usually a fan of the fancy bakery sheet cakes (not that I would turn them away, mind you).  But a good old fashioned Bundt cake or a layer cake brings a smile to my face.

My younger dd has a birthday party to go to today--so I had a good excuse to pull out my Eat Cake Graphics stamps.  Puppies and cake--such a beautiful pair!

I love this little guy. I sure hope he gets some cake, too!

I also decided to play some more with my alcohol markers.  My coloring is not perfect, but I am pleased with my progress.  Leaving a little white is a challenge to me--but I have noticed that the *pros* do that. 

The card base is an embossed card that I got in a box from Die Cuts With a View (DCWV).  I find them VERY handy for birthday cards.

Adventures in Paper Tole

  The technique lover's challenge for this week was paper tole.  I have done this before with flowers but the stipulation for the challenge was to NOT use flowers.

I chose this little doggie and sentiment from Eat Cake Graphics.  I just love this guy (I really need to get some cake to go with him!!) 

 

 

This is the detail of the layers.  I colored each layer.

 

He looked a little lonely so I added some confetti and streamers.

 

The papers are from a Colorbök set of papers from the $ section at Joann's.

It is spring break this week and my dd (Gracie the 9 yr old)was looking for something to do.  So I suggested she try this with the Crab and Co. stamp set (SU!) for my nephew's birthday.  Gracie often needs help with layout so I also had her try Julee Tilman's Mojo Monday (Mojo31) sketch. 

This is what she came up with:

I would not have picked out these colors--but they work.  

I did help her with the paper cutter--she gets confused by the measurements.

CAKE?????

I love cake! (and it shows) I also love birthdays (though I STINK at getting cards out on time). And to me, one of the best parts of birthdays is cake.


Sadly my family does not share my feelings on this. My son usually chooses a pan of brownies or a BIG cookie for his birthday *cake* and my older daugher chooses pie. My in-laws love this--as they do not like cake either. Thankfully, my little daugher is still hooked on tradition and chooses cake (always chocolate with pink icing) for her birthday.


I love this image and sentiment from Eat Cake Graphics! The dog is even named *Cupcake*!! How cute is that!!?!!

The little cupcake is from a clear $ set my mom picked up at Michaels for me. It has a cherry on top that is solid and not outlined--so when you ink up the cupcake in black as an outline--you get a black cherry. Now, don't get me wrong, I love black cherries (YUMMY!) but not BLACK cherries. YKWIM???? So when I use this stamp, I think there will always be an embellishment of some sort on top!

BIG KITTY!!!!

Okay--I think I am on an animal kick!

As I was chatting with my friend Shelly and decided that I needed to used these cat images that she gave me with this little Peek-a-boo hamster that I just got. I don't have any hamsters or kitties handy--so I used Google Images to look at a few animals to get some idea of how to color them.

I am thrilled with how this came out!!

Big Dog???

I just got my order from Eat Cake Graphics. I have been wanting to order from them for almost a YEAR--and I finally did it.

I love this image. I ordered it specifically to make things for my ds. He is eleven and all boy, but he has a soft spot for little animals. I know he will love this little guy.


The sketch is from Jen Del Muro HERE. I did not look at the sketch DURING the card making process--so I strayed from it a bit.

I made the paw print accents by punching the paw print punch first (from Michael's $ bin). Then I punched out the negative with a 1/2" circle punch. I layered that on a 1/2" contrasting color 1/2" circle/ That was mounted on a pop dot and mounted on a 3/4" circle.

Paper: Black, Grey and White Cardstock; KI Memories DP
Accessories: Ribbon; Paw Print punch; 1/2" and 3/4" circle punches; Scalloped Square Punch; colored pencils; foam tape & pop dots
