Friday is here!!!

I am in full graduation mode as my second child graduates.

And in full reflection mode, too.  Memories!  Not just of my own child graduating but the wonderful people she has brought into my life.

My daughter's oldest friend was the inspiration behind this card.  She is a dancer.  She is a joy to watch and a blessing to know!

The image used is Magical Bloom Dancer from A Day for Daisies:

She was printed on watercolor paper.  I used Tim Holtz Distress and Stampin' Up inks to watercolor her.

Watercolor Blossom

We made it!  It is Friday!!

This has been a marathon week at our house... I am not sure how a short week ended up so loooong, but it did!

Friday is here and that means it is time for an A Day for Daisies card!!
Today I watercolored the image, Flower #1 (a digi from A Day for Daisies):

As inspiration I used the colors from ColourQ #257:

(note: the lighter blue backgroud is really more "bermuda bay-ish" 

in real life but, my camera just doesn't like that color)

This blossom is a part of the September Club at A Day for Daisies.  This week we (the design team) are playing just with the flowers!

Watercolors and Sympathy

I have a sympathy card for you today.  As usual with sympathy cards, I never make just one... I make a few.

The flowers were inked with distress inks. I use damped cotton swabs ($ store ones are best -- less cotton) with some ink from re-inker bottles.

When the stamp was fully inked it was misted with water and stamped onto white cardstock. (Regular office supply variety).

I masked the flowers with office paper (copy weight) and then stamped the background over it. The background stamp was inked in the same manner... Inked with Shabby Shutters and the edges with Peeled Paint.

The die was then lined up with masked area and run through my machine to emboss but not cut.

Playing With Crayons

The watercolor floral stamps at Rubbernecker have inspired me to stamp with a medium that I haven't used in a LONG time: watercolor crayons.

These watercolor stamps are just right for them.  My technique was to spritz the stamp with water then color on the stamp with the crayon.  Once I have laid on on all of my colors, I spritz the stamp again with water then stamp onto watercolor paper.

I hope you dance

This card is for the sketch challenge SC440 (from SplitCoastStampers) and the Color Throwdown #246. I had to reverse the sketch to make sense with my images.

All stamps are from Rubbernecker Stamp Co.

The "ballet shoes" and the "corner lace" stamps are embossed with white embossing powder.

I didn't have any "rich razzleberry" ink or paper so I did the best with what I had. I used Distress Inks to watercolor... mixing till I got the right color.

Today's card is a simple and elegant card.

Stamps are by Rubbernecker Stamp Company

I stamped the main image ("bride with bouquet") with Memento Rich Cocoa onto Bristol paper and colored it with Copic and ShinHan markers.

The background stamp ("abstract roses") was stamped with VersaMark onto watercolor paper, then heat embossed with white embossing powder.
I lightly watercolored the roses with Tim Holtz's Antique Linen.

Some Water Coloring

This is a water coloring technique that I haven’t used in quite a while…

I stamped the image (Rose Ornament {SKU: 551}) with VersaMark onto water color paper. I then wet each area with plain water, then painted with diluted stamp pad re-inkers.  This is an easy way to watercolor since each area is “contained”.
Also with this card…I used the main image as an accent/background stamp.  I stamped it twice on the card base and stamped and embossed it on the patterned paper accent strip across the card.

• Ink: VersaMark and Tim Holtz Distress Ink and Pad (Broken China—for the backgound);

What have I been up to?

Just making a few cards!  All of these cards use stamps from Rubbernecker Stamp Company!

Details:

• Stamps: Sentiment from Garden Phrase Set (SKU:508); Butterfly Inchies (SKU:427) and Bud Tree Set (SKU:505) all from Rubbernecker;
• Patterned paper: Memory Box;
• Cardstock: Bazzill;
• Ink: Tim Holtz Distress Ink: Concord Grape and Vintage Photo;
• Liquid Pearls and Stickles;
• Foam Tape
• Martha Stewart punch

The dots on the branch were accented with Liquid Pearls and Stickles.  The butterfly was inked first with Concord Grape then then the edges of the top of the wings were inked with Vintage Photo. (just an easy way to get a multicolored image)

 

Details:

• Stamps: Sentiment from Fall Trilogy Set (SKU:480); and Create a Garden Set 2 (SKU:513) both from Rubbernecker;
• Patterned Paper: Cosmo Cricket (plaid) and 7 Gypsies;
• Cardstock: Bazzill;
• Ink: Tim Holtz Distress Ink: Wild Honey, Scattered Straw, Bundled Sage, Peeled Paint, Walnut Stain, and Frayed Burlap (for inking the edges);
• Spellbinders dies
• twill tape and brad

The “blossoms” on the wildflower were inked first with Wild Honey; then I blotted the edges on a scrap paper; then inked the entire image with Scattered Straw.  This method (a revised Rock ‘n Roll technique) made a blended image with just a touch of dimension.

Rejoice!

One of the other churches in our community is celebrating 100 years as a congregation this year.  One of our church leaders commissioned me to make a card “from all of us to all of them”.

I like the lighthouse theme and how it relates to a church (or what a church is meant to be): a light in the darkness; a guide in a storm.  So, with this theme in mind I set out to create this card:

The stamp was designed by Donna Duquette, one of my fellow design team members from Starving Artistamps.

• Stamp: Donna's Lighthouse from Starving Artistamps;
• Color Medium: Watercolor;
• Other Materials: watercolor paper, stickles; Judikins’ Diamond Glaze;

The inside of the card accordion folds out to let MANY people sign and still have room for a greeting.  I will not attach the front till we (our congregation) have all signed it, so fingerprints on the front image won’t be a problem.  Also, the ribbon on the front is left a little long since there will be some handling before the card is sent.  I will re-trim the ribbon before sending.

I have done a few “from the group” cards before, and this method seems to work best.

“Sea”sons Greetings!

Normally I am a “Merry Christmas” kind of girl!  But I am also a sucker for a pun!  I just love the thought hanging out at this seaside shack. 

So with a little acrylic paint and stickles,  I added a festive wreath to the front door!

Wacky Wednesday-Down Memory Lane

I chose a memory.

The story:
Twenty years ago I was recruited from Ohio to work at a YMCA camp in Colebrook CT.  A friend of mine and I flew out early to help get the camp ready for the season.  Our first morning was a dreary day with constant drizzle.  My friend and I were assigned to the Waterfront Director to help get the waterfront area ready.  Our task???  Paint the fence.

Yes, in the constant drizzle, we painted the fence.  About 50-75% of the the oil based paint actually stuck to the wood.  My friend and I laughed at the absurdity of our task—but we admitted that the fence did look better when we were done.

By now, you are probably wondering why I am telling you this story—right?  That waterfront director was a guy named Reed, and about 2 weeks later we had our first date…Last April we celebrated our 17th wedding anniversary.

We have often laughed at this story.  He claims that painting the fence was NOT his idea—well, if you say so sweetheart!

May Flowers

One of my favorite jokes when I was in grade school was:

Q: If April Showers bring May flowers, what do may flowers bring?

A: Pilgrims

(get it?????  May Flowers--Mayflower--boat--Plymouth Rock???)

Anyway….

I have May Flowers for you.  My good friend and I were on a road trip last weekend and we just HAD to stop at a stamp store along the way. (YKWIM???)  Well there was some paper that was just too cute and asked to come home with me.  What could I say??

I hope you like the paper, and the stamp set too for that matter—because  They work REALLY well together.  And since I have the organization skills of a 4 yr old, I am trying to enjoy it and use it up.

 

I think the second one is my mom’s birthday card.  The first one uses colored (Prismacolor) pencils and the second one uses watercolors (re-inkers).

Wacky Wednesday and a Sneak Peak

As you can see I used both, buttons and chipboard (grungeboard).

The frame is grungeboard covered with Distress Crackle paint. 

The key, hinges, and keyhole are painted with acrylic paint and the dusted with Perfect Pearls-bonze when they were half dry.
