WW9—Heatin’ things up!

Yes, today is Wednesday—and it is time for another “Wacky Wednesday!”
The host for today’s WW-Challenge is the ultra-sweet Bev Gerard.  The very woman who hosted most of the Rubbernecker Design Team, Mr. and Mrs. Rubbernecker, and various stampers who dropped in for an extended weekend in March.  So this week—we have the “hostess with the mostest!!”
She has asked us to heat things up with our projects this week!!  So get out your irons, heat guns, melting pot—and use them in your favorite heated technique!
I chose to heat up some clear embossing powder with my heat gun.
WW9-Simply Fabulous
The silhouetted woman, the shoes and the purses were heat embossed.
***TIP/TRICK***If you want to clear emboss DYE ink—FIRST stamp your stamp on to a watermark or embossing pad THEN onto your dye ink pad.
By clear embossing my images—I was able to sponge my oval (a mask made with a Spellbinders die) and not have it mix with my die ink NOR have it overlap the images.
Materials:
Stamps: Fashion Icons sets  455 and 456
Paper: Prism Cardstock; dp from Paper Loft;
Ink: Memento Pear Tart; Tim Holtz Distress Ink Black Soot; tempting turquoise-SU!;
Accessories: May Arts Ribbon; clear embossing powder; Nestabilities oval die; Prima Flower; glitter dots; corner rounder and ticket corner punches;
Now check out what the rest of the Design Team has done as well as what you could win by participating in the Wacky Wednesday Challenge this week on the Rubbernecker Stamp Company BLOG!!</ a>

it is the journey...

Actually, the title of this post should be *it is the EFFORT*!

Today's Technique Lover's Challenge was to do a medallion.  See instructions HERE.  My corner punches are not the *right* ones to use for this challenge.  BUT I do have a picture holder corner punch--so I figured--hey, it is just one piece of cardstock--might as well try it.   I ended up with a cute octagon that POPPED out of the middle of the circle (Note to self: Next time I need a stop sign....).  But that was NOT what I was hoping for...

Then I looked closer at the outer circle...hmmmmm. If I took two squares of paper....and fit them in the slots....ummmmm.  Well, I thought it wasn't half bad.  With the right dp--it might even look cool--but I stuck with good ole' gray.

TLC193--the journey

The images are from Starving Artistamps.   The bee is from the Bees Sheet and the sentiment is from "hogs and kisses" sentiment set.

The image was stamped with Palette Noir ink and colored with Prismacolor markers.

There are three dew droppy thingies on the lower right, they show up better IRL--as does the Stardust Stickles on the wings.  But as always, you can click on the picture for a larger view.

Thanks for stopping by!  And now, if you were wondering if TLC193 would work with the corner slot punch....um...it kinda does.Winking

Music and Flowers

I got little bits of time here and there to stamp this weekend. This started as a birthday card for my mother-in-law, but it turned out not to be her style. (So I will try again tomorrow).

I played some more with Tim Holtz Distress Inks--mostly Broken China and Peeled Paint. They coordinate well with Taken with Teal, Cool Caribbean, Old Olive and Certainly Celery (yeah--my favorite combo).

Music and flowers

I stamped the flower (Queen Anne's Lace) on the main image three times (misting after each stamping) on watercolor paper. Then I stamped the music staff slightly above/overlapping the flowers). The edges of the main image and the patterned paper were sponged with Old Paper.

The mat was spritzed with a Broken China-Perfect Pearls (copper)-water spray and then edges were sponged with Broken China. Then dotted with Liquid Pearls (baby blue).

The hinges are Grungeboard painted with a Copper Adirondack Paint Dabber then a Willow Paint Dabber. I filled the holes with the Liquid Pearls.

The patterned paper (Paper Loft from Hobby Lobby) is stamped with Baroque Motif (stamped off) and misted with the Broken China mist.

The black base was stamped with the music staff inked with VersaMark and clear embossed.

Hope you had a wonderful weekend!

Happy Birthday, Myrtle!

On Becky Oehler's blog, Hemidemisemiquaver (yeah say that five times fast!) , she is looking for birthday cards for her Nanny, Myrtle, who is turning 105!!!  How cool is that!!  I bet she has more wisdom in her little finger than I have in my whole head!!

So this card is for her!  AND this card is for Jeanne's RubberNecker Blogger Challenge (using circles)!!!  AND I started by embossing the cake and watercoloring it--THEN I saw the Technique Challenge for today!!!  (which is embossed watercolor)

RBC09-Take the Cake

Before I knew what the challenge was on SCS--I had embossed the cake because I wanted the outline to be this color (Old Paper Distress Ink).  But since I wanted to watercolor the cake--I needed to use clear embossing powder to seal it.  Now, Distress Inks stay wet enough to emboss (on most papers).  But I could have also inked the stamp first with an embossing ink (like VersaMark) before inking with the dye ink, and that would have worked, too!

Material Used:

Stamps: Cake and Sentiment from RubberNecker;

Inks: Old Paper, Shabby Shutters, Milled Lavender, and Broken China Distress ink;

Papers: Prism (light green--does anyone know the color behind the sentiment??); Off White (unknown); DP-Sprout (Memory Box); Scalloped Orchid Card (DCWV); Kraft (SU!);

Accessories: Coluzzle; Nestabilities; clear EP; sponge, watercolor brush; Liquid Pearls-Platinum (Ranger);

Thanks for stopping by--now head over to Becky's blog and see how you can send Myrtle a card!!

Glittery Valentine

What is Valentine's day with out a little BLING?!?

When I stamped the main image I had planned on using colored pencils to color it in. So I stamped using StazOn on plain white cardstock.
Well, I woke up in the middle of the night unable to go back to sleep. So what is a girl to do??? You got it, stamp. I didn't actually stamp, but I watercolored (I had left my pencils at the bedside next to my exhausted and sleeping husband). AND Emily on Splitcoast had posted the color challenge for the week (YIPPEE!). Sage Shadow, Rose Red, and Apricot Appeal.

So I got out my re-inkers and watercolored! Very relaxing to me. I used a grey watercolor crayon (Lyra brand) to do the background. I have to say following the swirls and the lumpy bumps was quite therapeutic. Though I would have to add--I did wish I was using watercolor paper. The color was difficult to move around on the flat white--I could not get even coverage nor could I get the shading I wanted.

The following morning I die cut the shape and STICKLED it. With both Diamond and Crystal stickles (they reflect different colors).
Close up of the STICKLING:

I have to admit--I do not like Apricot Appeal. To me--it is peach or light orange. I neither like peach NOR light orange. So, taking the advice of Erin K. :
I think when you are using a color you are not sure about you should use it in
small amounts with colors you are confident about. That's the Erin tip for the
day.
So the ONLY Apricot Appeal you see in this is in the watercoloring.

For this Valentine I only used one stamp. This stamp is called "Ornate Tooled Leather" by Starving Artistamps. I am finding it quite versatile (you see I used it for the main image AND for the background).

The line of pearls is a sticker. (no--I didn't line them up myself--can't/won't do that)

ANYWAY--the result is a very sparkly card!
Thanks for stopping by!!

More is MORE!!!

Well, I did it again! I uploaded a card that *I thought* was finished--but it wasn't. I do that too much--I guess I am in too big of a hurry to get to my housework. (yeah right) Whatever the reason, I did it today.

In our church, there is a little girl turning one, and the entire church is in love with this child. She is a dear girl with eyes as big as saucers and her mom has a HUGE heart. So needless to say, I wanted to do something SPECIAL for them. (you know the card and gift for a one year old is mainly for the parent) So I came up with this:

It was inspired by the Sketch for today at Splitcoast and the *Rob & Bob* paper from Provo Craft. The stamps are a couple of Studio G sets, and the ribbon is from the $ spot at Target. AND of course I used my new Nestabilities dies!! (yeah, like I can do a card without them any more!!)

Don't forget a *touch* of Diamond Stickles and Pearl Paint!!! Gotta have diamonds and pearls!!

But, it just wasn't enough!!

So then came this card:

MORE ribbon (from Hobby Lobby)
MORE bling (a jewel from the $ bin at Mikes AND Pearl Ex spritzed on the letters)
MORE words (Go Slim font by Ellison)
MORE flowers (punches from SU! and Target $ spot)

I decided I LIKE more!!!!

Thanks for looking!!
