Kittie Kit Blog Hop

Fresh Eggs!

Well, not really…

Below is a gift set for my husbands secretary.  She raises chickens so I thought she would appreciate a set of cards using my “Kittie Kit-Cause a Scene-Chicken Coop” set.

Materials:

• StazOn Jet Black for outlines and Tim Holtz Distress Ink-refills to watercolor
• Watercolor paper; Cosmo Cricket DP; Not quite navy SU! cardstock; Pre-folded cards from Michaels;
• Foam tape and Martha Stewart border punch; Spellbinders dies; May Arts Ribbon;

If you haven’t tried a Kittie Kit—I highly suggest trying one (the Outdoor Master is a good place to start).  They are fun and easy to use.

Wacky Wednesday-Down Memory Lane

It is time for Wacky  Wednesday #24!  Joan is our hostess this week.  She has challenged us to pick our inspiration from a past experience, memory, past possession like a car, favorite clothing style, music...you name it.  Contest and prize information and details are on the Rubbernecker Stamps Blog.

I chose a memory.

The story:
Twenty years ago I was recruited from Ohio to work at a YMCA camp in Colebrook CT.  A friend of mine and I flew out early to help get the camp ready for the season.  Our first morning was a dreary day with constant drizzle.  My friend and I were assigned to the Waterfront Director to help get the waterfront area ready.  Our task???  Paint the fence.

Yes, in the constant drizzle, we painted the fence.  About 50-75% of the the oil based paint actually stuck to the wood.  My friend and I laughed at the absurdity of our task—but we admitted that the fence did look better when we were done.

By now, you are probably wondering why I am telling you this story—right?  That waterfront director was a guy named Reed, and about 2 weeks later we had our first date…Last April we celebrated our 17th wedding anniversary.

We have often laughed at this story.  He claims that painting the fence was NOT his idea—well, if you say so sweetheart!

After meeting Kittie and hearing about how her stamping style AND these sets came about I am so excited about them. They were created with heart! They are not difficult to use—in fact; I have found them fun and therapeutic. You don’t have to be Kittie or a Kittie-wanna-be to use these. I am sure you will see them used in a variety of styles and ways during today’s blog stroll.
I used the #8—The barn & farm set yesterday here. Today I have used the #7—Chickens.

This was inspired by the sketch yesterday at SplitCoastStampers—but since I didn’t bother to print it out—the sketch changed in my mind between computer and studio.
Other than the new Kittie Kit and the Kittie Kit Outdoor Master (grass) I used:

Paper: watercolor paper; Prism-Island Mist Light & Medium and Tawny Dark;
Ink: StazOn for images; Tim Holtz Distress Ink for watercoloring;
Accessories: brads; ribbon; sponges; foam tape

Wacky Wednesday and a Sneak Peak

It is Wacky Wednesday!!

Our host this week is the wonderful Candy Williams.  She has challenged us (us meaning you, too!!) to use chipboard and/or buttons on our creations this week.  You can see all of the details at the Rubbernecker BLOG.

ALSO….Today I have a sneak peak of TOMORROW’s NEW STAMP REALEASE!!! 

As you can see I used both, buttons and chipboard (grungeboard).

The frame is grungeboard covered with Distress Crackle paint. 

The key, hinges, and keyhole are painted with acrylic paint and the dusted with Perfect Pearls-bonze when they were half dry.

You can do this!!!

Am I the only one who was intimidated by the Kittie Kits from Rubbernecker???   I mean, sure they have all the stamps that she uses, and yeah she makes it look so easy…but…

…But will I be able to do anything with them??  Will I just look like a failed Kittie-wanna-be??? 

Am I the only one who thought like that??

Well, even if I am the only one who had these thoughts, I want to tell you that if I can do this—so can you. 

When in TX with Kittie I expressed my fears, but she encouraged me to just give it a try.  Not only was I amazed that I could make something that looked nice, but IT WAS FUN!!!

Here is my first attempt:

I just used regular Georgia Pacific cardstock, after all, I was just playing around.  The ground was made by sponging the edge of a torn paper mask.  I also watercolored a few branches.  I cropped out the parts that didn’t work—and the ribbon is covering an unfortunate smudge.  But I am fairly happy with the results.

My second attempt:

This time (taking Kittie’s suggestion) I used real watercolor paper.  I felt more in control of the ink and playing with my fine watercolor brush to make branches and fill in the trunk.  The clouds are my old standby for watercolored sky—a water color crayon. (Sadly I need a sympathy card for my dear SIL—who lost her stepfather last month). 

Does the world need another Kittie Caracciolo??  Nope, we have an absolutely WONDERFUL one. 

In fact, she is so wonderful that she encouraged me to try something that has brought her great joy and satisfaction.  (Yeah, she is REALLY like that!!)  And through this I am having fun making Kittie-ish scenes in my own Jules-ish way.

So if you have been on the fence on whether to try a Kittie Kit or two, I really suggest getting one of the masters (Outdoor Master or Beach Master) and giving it a try.  After all—it is only ink and paper!!
